Even without lumping desktop and mobile together though, how do you define "market share" for a non-profit item like a web browser? Strict pageviews = 1:1; unique visitors w/ usage weights by country = 2:1 ratio; "has installed on a computer" / "uses on a daily basis" = 2:1 w/ gigantic overlap (something like 99%:50%)? What is this I don't even…

Weird, the synching has just always worked for me. I haven't typed in a password to make it work in months.

But what if you don't WANT it to sync? ;-)

Google seems to be shooting itself in the foot lately, between the YouTube / Google+ "like" blockage and other "forced" account synchronization. Believe it or not, there are people who really do not want their different services linked together through a single account, which logs into everything all at the same time. I think Microsoft gave up on that kind of thing long ago, but Google seems to keep hanging on to it…

The synching is something you have to opt in to, it's not on by default.

I use Chrome, but I dont like Google over all. I also am against the "one login to rule them all". It just makes it too easy for corporate America, and the Government, to catalog everything we do in our lives. Just one more step towards RFID chips and whatnot for the tin-foil hat enthusiasts who may be reading.

That being said, IE is a garbage browser. Sadly it isn't all MS's fault. Their giant stake in the browser market in the early days of the internet made them the number one target for malicious programmers. This has lead to one of the most bloated and convoluted browsers in Internet history, with numerous security flaws (too many hackers still hack it).

I use Chrome because its quick, and sleek.

If only someone would make a browser who isn't hellbent on becoming The Internet Tyrant, and it be as quick and trimmed down as Chrome, then I would be more than happy to give it a try.

Sidenote: I also do some webdesign, and coding (any language pretty much) is always a nightmare with having to go through and make IE exceptions to get it to display properly like it does on pretty much every other major browser (Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Safari, and mobile versions of each).

So yeah, fuck IE.

No, it is 100% MS's fault. Being the biggest making them a target for hackers is definitely true. That *should* have meant that MS doubled down to react to those threats and end up with the best goddamn browser on the planet. Instead they ended up with nasty bloatware that isn't any more secure today than it was 5 years ago. Google snapping out a faster, more secure, more standard compliant browser is totally something MS should have been able to deal with. They just dropped the ball (or, rather, are continuing to drop the ball) on IE in general.
